SPECIFIC STEPS
|
|
Absent Students
|
I Keep a binder for absent students. Absent student binder will contain extra copies of worksheets, organized by day with post-it notes.
|
|
Active Learning Position
|
Students will sit in ALP while receiving instructions either on the carpet or in their desks. ALP is hands folded in front (on desk/ in lap); eyes on the teacher; feet on the ground; chair legs on the ground; brains on; ears open
|
|
Attendance
|
Students will be called for attendance after the morning pledge. I will record attendance at 7:35 am.
|
|
Attention
(Teacher to Student)
|
I will raise my hand with one hand on my mouth and one hand in the air. When students see me with my hand up, they will follow suit. Also, I will utilize counting “5,4,3,2,1” and rhythm clapping (I clap a rhythm, students respond by clapping back)
|
|
Attention (Student to Teacher)
|
In order to get my attention, students may raise their hand calmly and wait their turn for my help while still working.
|
|
Backpacks and Lunches
|
Backpacks and Coats will be placed on their numbered hook. All materials for the day need to be taken in the morning. Students will not be allowed to go back to their backpacks during the day.
|
|
Bathroom
|
Line up and Walk to the bathroom (using above procedures)
Boys and girls line up against two opposite walls
Two boys and Two girls use the bathroom at a time
Visit water fountain after bathroom if desired
Sit down in the hallway next to lines
Sit quietly in straight lines
Listen for teacher directions to stand up and walk back the classroom
Two straight, quiet lines in “Lip and Hip” position

Bathroom Emergencies
|
For Bathroom emergencies, students will need to raise their hands and notify the teacher of the emergency. Students will take a hall pass and return immediately after going to the bathroom.
|
|
Behavior Tracking
|
I will track behavior throughout the day using green, yellow, and red cards for each student.
Green: Every student starts here at the beginning of the day. Great behavior!
Yellow: Warning Behavior. Student fills out a behavior reflection sheet and a short note is sent home to parents.
Red: Inappropriate behavior is referred to the office and parents receive a phone call from teacher or front office.
Student behavior will be tracked weekly for the progress folder. Students who end the week with all green will receive a prize from the treasure box.

Birthdays
|
Students will be recognized in class on their birthdays. They are welcome to bring treats for the end of the day. Treats must be pre-packaged and store bought according to health regulations. Please bring enough for 26 students!

|
Centers
|
Activity centers will be used during all subjects during various lessons. Students will listen to directions in Active Listening Position prior to beginning centers. If direction are not followed students will work on activity alone at a desk.
|
|
Classroom Jobs
|
Students will be given classroom jobs. The classroom jobs will be rotated every week. The classroom jobs include:
Line Leader
Line Caboose
Door Holder
Materials Manager: Will pass out any supplies needed as teacher designates. Materials manager also monitors table supplies and replenishes student table supplies with classroom supplies.
Pencil Monitor: collects the broken pencils from each table at the end of the day and sharpens the unsharpened pencils during centers time/ lunch time/ or before/ after school.
Librarian: Maintains the neatness of the classroom library.

Classroom Library
|
The classroom library will be utilized throughout the day in literacy centers. Students should only “check out” one library book at a time. Books brought from home are encouraged, but are the sole responsibility of the student! Please write student’s name on books from home.

Verbal Praise
Stickers to reward hard work
Behavior tracking, every time a student finishes the week on green, student will get sticker on behavior tracking sheet and a prize from the treasure chest.
Every time the class is being good, I will add a kernel to the popcorn jar. When the popcorn jar is full, we will have a classroom popcorn celebration.

Consequences (Negative)
|
Verbal Warning
Change Color Once: Warning and fill out think sheet with a note home.
Change Color Two Times: Lose Privilege (Either partly or completely depending on action); lost privileges are taking minutes off recess; free choice time. If a referral is written parents will receive a call home.
|
|
Dismissal
|
Start clean up 5 minutes before dismissal. Clean up music will play and everyone cleans up areas, pencil monitor sharpens pencils, material manager will refill table supply bins if necessary, librarian will clean up library area. Students will be called by table to collect their take home folder and bag and return to their seats.
Beginning of year- October 6th Students dismissed from inside the classroom as parents drive up.
October 15th- end of year Students dismissed from outside.

Entering Learning Space
|
Students will enter our learning space using whispering tones and ready to learn.
|

Hallway Behavior
|
Students will walk in their lines, lip and hip, silently.
|

Homework
|
Weekly homework will include a spelling word list, reading log packet, and math homework.
|
|
Independent Work
|
Independent work will be done silently.
|
|
Interruptions
|
When visitors come in the room, students are to keep their eyes on me unless further instructed.
|
|
Lining Up
|
Students sit in learning position at tables or rows on rug
Teacher calls on table/rows, quietest first
When called on, stand up and push chair in
Walk quietly to the door and stand in a straight line (boys on left, girls on right)

|
|
Morning Routine
|
Students will line up outside the classroom until the first bell rings. They will enter the classroom and greet me. Students will turn in folders/homework and any forms to their mailbox. Students will then place their backpacks and lunch on the rack. The Students will go to their cubby and collect any materials needed for the day. Students will participate in silent reading or morning work until pledge begins.

New Students
|
I will have a new student packet full of important information. I will also assign a new student buddy to assist the new student throughout their first week.
|
|
Nurse/Front office
|
Students will be sent to the front office only in circumstances where medicine is needed, health concerns, or there are accidents involving bodily fluids.
|
|
Participation
|
While the teacher or someone else is talking, students will quietly raise their hands and wait for the teacher to call on them to talk. I will state the expectation of raising hands when I want students to do so.
There are times when it is appropriate for students to contribute without raising their hands.
|
|
Partner Work
|
Each unit, students will be assigned, “Think, Pair, Share” Partners that they will work with all unit. When working in partners students will be expected to work in a whisper.
|
|
Progress Reports
|
Students will be sent home with their progress reports every other Friday. I do this so that students and parents are aware of grades, missing assignments, etc. and there are no surprised come time for conferences!
|
|
Pencils
|
All pencils that are broken during the day are placed in the pencil hospital located at each table. The pencil monitor will collect these pencils at the end of the day and sharpen any unsharpened pencils.
|
|
Recess
|
Students will have a morning recess on days without PE. They will always have a lunch recess. I will have a timer with me always. I will give the students a one minute warning and blow my whistle at the end of recess. Students are to line up in two separate lines and enter the building silently.

|
Sitting on Carpet
|
Students will sit on the carpet, criss-cross apple sauce in their table rows. Once we enter the carpet area we look at the teacher, open our ears to hear, and place our hands in our laps in active learning position.

|
Snack
|
Parents may send a HEALTHY snack with their student each day. Snacks will be eaten at approximately 9:30am during break or recess.
Snack suggestions: fruit, GoGurt, granola back, trail mix, carrots.
**Snacks will not be provided by the teacher or the school. If a student does not have a snack they will wait for lunch to eat. It is perfectly fine if students don’t bring snacks.

Take home folders
|
Each student will be given a take home folder. The left side of the folder contains papers to take and leave at home (progress reports, parent notes, school info) The right side of the folder is for papers to take home and return (homework, permission slips, etc.)
Students are responsible for bringing take home folder EVERYDAY!!

|
Technology
|
Here at ACA we are fortunate to access the newest technology in education. Students will be taught how to use items like iPads, computers, Kindles, Smartboards correctly and are expected to be extremely careful with school property.
|
|
Turning in papers
|
When a student finished an assignment, student will remain in their desks, raise their hands and wait for the teacher to check them off. Once the teacher checks off the student, the student will place their work face down and the materials manager will pick up the papers when the teacher instructs him/her to do so.
|
|
