January flew by in second grade and February is already here. We did an excellent job on our winter benchmarks in January! February is a shorter month; however, we have a lot of new concepts to dive into. Please make sure your child is at school by 7:30 each day and ready to learn. Please keep in mind the important dates listed below:

Groups demonstrated teamwork by modeling three-digit numbers.
Our next math chapter is Chapter 6: Data. Throughout the chapter, we will be learning how tally charts, pictographs, and bar graphs can help us solve problems. Chapter 6 vocabulary terms are:
bar graph- a graph that uses bars to show data data- information colected about people or things key- the part of a graph that explains the symbols pictograph- a graph that uses pictures to show data scale- the numbers placed at a fixed distance on a graph to help label the graph
Students created a mobile to demonstrate knowledge of the author's lesson from our reading story Helping Out.
We will incorporate writing throughout the day. In February, our formative writing mode is Research.
During our grammar portion of writing, we will be focusing on focusing on action verbs and begin learning about verb agreement.
We visited the local police station during our community field trip.
Our third unit in Social Studies is Using Our Resources. By the end of the unit, students will be able to answer the following essential questions:
-What natural resources do people use? How do they use them?
-What are som of the reasons people choose to live in a place?
-How do people change their environment?
-How have transportation and communication changed over time?
Unit 2 Vocabulry: natural resource- something found in nature that people can use conservation- the saving of resources to make them last longer technology- the use of new objects and ideas in everday life product- something that is made by nature or by people
Students work together to investigate how many drops of water will fit on a penny.
We will be investigating weather concepts beginning mid-February and continuing until Spring Break. We will be able to answer the following essential questions by the end of the unit:
How does weather change?
Why do we measure weather?
What is the water cycle?
