Septemeber:

We will be reading Maniac Magee a novel by Jerry Spinelli. We are starting litereature circle this month.  Students will work in small groups with reading and comprehending.

Book report approval and note forms have gone home. Please help your child select an appropriate novel and ensure they are reading it nightly.  We will be working on the expectations of the book report in class.  Students will be required to give an oral presentation of their book.
 Social Studies

For September on into November, we will be discussing our government.  The students are excited about learning how the government is run.  They are also excited about learning about the electorial process.  We will be nominating and electing a governing board for each 6th grade classroom.  The students will give speaches and campaign for thier nominated positions.  This is going to be fun and engaging learning experience for all.
