Welcome to our Second Grade Garden!
What a wonderful time we have had getting to know each other and starting to learn our 2nd grade curriculum. The students have done a fantastic job this first month of school and I cannot wait to see what exciting things we will be discovering the rest of the semester.
Below you will find classroom information regarding curriculum, homework, and even pictures.
Students will be using the Harcourt Trophies reading series as their second grade curriculum. By clicking the picture, you will enter the Harcourt website where you will find information and activites to help your student in thier learning.
Along with the writing component in the Harcourt Trophies Reading Curriculum we will be using the Harcourt Common Core Writing Handbook. This book was designed to compliment the writing instruction in the reading program as well as to meet all of the Common Core State Standards for writing. The student's handbook is a special tool that will help them learn to write better by reading about how to write, giving them ideas and tips as well as allowing them to share thier ideas and practice writing.

This month students will be reviewing the writing process and learning how to write an Expressive paragraph.

We use the GO Math! Harcourt math curriculum in second grade.
Students have just finished Chapter 1 focusing on Number Concepts, specifically Number and Operations in Base Ten. I am very happy to say that the students have reached a class average of 91% on their Chapter 1 Test. Way to Go!!
Our class is currently beginning Chapter 2, focusing on Numbers to 1,000. Students will be building their math vocabulary, working on their problem solving skills and using the Base Ten blocks for hands on learning.
